Reading: This week our reading theme was “families.” The main focus was summarizing and drawing conclusions. The students have also learned about clusters with l (bl, cl, gl). The high-frequency words learned this week are: come, your, people, family, love, picture. Please add these words to your flashcards and practice at home.
Math: The students continued to learn about pennies, nickels, and dimes this week. The students have also been learning how to exchange 5 pennies for a nickel and 2 nickels for a dime. Please practice counting coins at home if you notice your child struggling with this. Frames and arrows were also introduced this week. This is a diagram used to help with counting forward and backward by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s. The students are given a rule and they have to follow the rule in each frame to continue the pattern. Next Thursday, we will take an assessment on unit 3.
Health: The students learned about breathing, their lungs, and the importance of keeping their lungs healthy. They also learned about their heart and were involved in activities that got their heart rate up.
